My New Bike Is Broke ! I Dont Get It ????

So yesterday AM Was cycling to work, and all seemed good, but I thought my seat post had slipped after about 8 miles, so I stopped, raised it and then flew for the last 4 miles.

Then last night I felt too far back, stopped, raised the seat post again and set off, it just didnt feel right, but I was on slicks on a boggy canal so I put it down to that, then when I was home I washed it, but I noticed what I thought was paint peeling, on closer inspection the frame around the seat post area is cracked, I have never crashed the bike, its only just 2 months old and I dont weigh 39 stone, so how can this happen and I'd assume there shouldn't be any issues in getting it replaced ?

Ouch, that looks nasty, glad it didn't fully snap while you were riding.

If the bike's that new it will still be under warranty, and many frame manufacturers offer lifetime guarantees against cracks in any case.

Agreed, I only ride it on the Canal, its narrow and muddy, While I average 14 MPH, I can (and do) hit over 20 MPH, I dread to think where I could have ended up if it snapped !!!!

I'll check with the shop today, I just hope its not an issue and or they dont try to lay the blame with me.

I've seen this happen, and seen the shop reject the request for a refund - and quite rightly so. You're going to have to satisfy somebody that the seat pin wasn't too high. A third showing sounds good - very good - but can you demonstrate this by showing them the line of the pin?

if they play the abused/misused line to avoid a warranty replacement frame, stay calm, take a deep breath, say "you be hearing from me via the court system" and go and file a county court claim. The onus would then be on them to demonstrate abuse to the court. A reasonable shop owner will, of course, take one look at a serious cyclist complaining in good faith and do the right thing. Not all lbs owners are reasonable people.

an lbs used this trick this summer on one of my riding friends but he got his frame replaced pronto once the paperwork was filed and I helped someone at work challenge a well known webstore on the same basis two years ago.

I hold the place I got it from in High regard, but this will be a good test as to if the faith I show is correctly placed or not.

I REALLY hope there isnt an issue, however, when my Trek 6300 was a week old last year (NOT the same LBS) the whole rear wheel fell apart (I was over 20 stone but still) they said I was bunny hopping, pulling tricks etc etc etc, I have never been back to that shop and when I ask people about it that I know have shopped there, they all say the same, STAY AWAY, I REALLY hope it doesnt come to that with the Cube shop

They should be able to tell where the seat post is - i.e. there will be clamp marks on it to show how far it's inserted.

That's a frame fault for sure.

If you are well clear of the minimum insertion markers then all fine.

Nightmare. Hope it's sorted. You've not done any mad MTB'ing on it - thought it was just the canal path. These things are designed for some serious riding, so this should not happen.

Yup the clamp should prove where the post was.

and your right, 22 miles on a canal tow path is the worst I have put it though , altho I did have plans for the summer :-)

It's the manufacterer that offers the frame warranty, so the shop shouldn't have a problem with this unless they think they will have a problem with the manufacterer themselves - though the manufacterer (or distributor etc) tend to put a bit more trust in the retailers and ask less questions.

Unless of course the shop doesn't want to because of the "hassle", but we're starting to worry over nothing so fat as gaz hasn't even asked yet! I'm sure it will be fine.
