My new girls

Got two new hens today. Posh girls... not ex-batts. Two point-of-lay girls. May I introduce Dolce & Gabbana, known as Dolly & Gabe to their friends.

Dolce is the white with a bit of black hen. Gabbana is black with a bit of white.

They are in a temporary holding pen adjacent the big run containing Anode, Campag & Nolo, my three ex-batts. They'll be like this for a week to give all a chance to get to know each other, eyeball each other, talk to each other but without being able to peck each other to bits. Then the new girls will be put in with the old girls..

Why did I pick those two? So I can tell them apart from themselves and the others

One a Light Sussex the other a Silver Sussex (also known as a Black Sussex) which is a cross between a Light Sussex & a Barred Plymouth Rock.

They eggs will be a 'tinted' egg - a pale cream to light brown

You don't need a huge amount of room. If you've room for a shed you've room for a couple of hens

The posh girls have discovered the delights of grapes & sweetcorn. Yet to meet a hen that doesn't like grapes & sweetcorn.
