My New Synapse 105 Disc

Great bike and I've been riding the same machine for the last couple of months. I had a puncture on the front Schwalbe Lugano but other than that there have been no issues at all except problems I've caused myself. I managed to get some cleaner or lube onto the rear disc, which then contaminated the disc pad and needed replacing - lesson learnt now and all is well. I had the gears tweaked at the same time as replacing the pads due to cables stretching/bedding in. Yes I could have taken it back and had the store do it, but couldn't get the time. The only other massive problem with it is it gets dirty this time of year, so I always give her a full valet upon returning to base

I love my Synapse and I'm sure you will get along just fine with yours, indeed yours probably goes faster than mine right now

Wheeled it out of the garage for a short photoshoot. Far too muddy to ride it around here in rural Suffolk just now (at least until the mudguards that I ordered yesterday arrive).

weight is approx 9.5 kg

Not light but and certainly heavier than my old Giant Defy but if you want light then go for a CAAD8.

I think the weight thing is all relative, as I thought it was a fairly light bike, and in comparison to others around that price range it is. However I went out on mine yesterday and picked it up and thought that it was putting weight on, because it is. I have a Topeak saddle bag and a waterbottle tool box, as well as a large stainless steel water bottle. So spare tubes and tools etc plus my own girth ...... no way around this problem though is there because we need to carry stuff just in case, and it all adds to the weight

Oooo nice post, was looking at getting a disc brake bike in the future but spending a lot more on one. Now I'm realising I might need to learn to drive and buy a car and I could use this as a cheaper alternative. Might look at C2W scheme and see if anyone has it nearby

To be fair the 9.5 kg is not stupidly heavy for what i see is a year round bike. The 34/30 low gear is good, the discs stop well in the wet. If required it could lose some weight quite easily but i dont really see the point. If you want lighter, buy a CAAD 8

I've just sold my motocrosser so I have a bit of extra dosh, but I do like the Synapse Ultergra 3 Disc, plus if I sell my Crosstrail at near the asking price I might buy a carbon bike.
To me internal cables have a higher priority than a kg lighter ( which counts the Caads out) but I would change the cassette to a 32..
But I did read that somewhere more models are due to have disc brakes this year coming (2015) and these will arrive about july-ish.
PS.. Do like Cannondale's

The 105 and ultegra share the same frame, Love the Ultegtra version but alot more pricey.

More disc bikes will be available as this is the next big thing imho.

PS.. a few years from now they will be adding ABS..
