I'm currently looking at the Fiat Grande Punto Sport, found one at a big dealer for just under £5k, 21k miles, 07 plate, anyone here got one? Or can convince me to buy/not buy it?

I almost bought a 1.4 petrol Punto (57 plate?) a couple of years ago at auction.

It wasn't what I was there for, but it was absolutely loaded (for a small hatch) and was going for next to nothing.

I chickened out at the last bid and since then everyone has told me that was the smartest thing I ever did.

Garages, friends in the trade... everyone.

It was lovely... red, 5-door, range-topping, low mileage and with electric everything and (if I'm not going mad) some sort of dual-zone A/C.

I have met no-one since who thinks they are a good buy.

This may not be accurate, but it is the only opinion I've heard.

buy a german car... better put together than a Fiat. it will be older as they depreciate less. it also means you will be ble to sell it one day, and not give it away

They have a terrible reputation, but my friend has a 4 year old Bravo which he really likes and hasn't skipped a beat. It's well equipped and possibly because of their reputation seem to be good value second hand.

The smart money buys a Skoda, They have VW build quality and engineering however because of the perceived desirability and image they are not thrashed by young men (like VW golfs) and are not used as company cars (like VW golfs) and likewise less likely to be stolen so have a lower insurance group and purchase price..... Skoda for the win.
Keep the hell away from fiats IMHO they are lacking so much. They are usually a problem looking for a place to happen, think about how many old fiats do you see on the road?

Honda has been producing some pretty reasonable cars as well for the last ten years. Could be worth a look imho

So thats the Fiat off the list then lol

Every time we get a Fiat in our workshop it's got big problems!

Water leaks have been prevalent on Grande Puntos IME.

I wouldn't have a Fiat given me TBH!

FWIW my Sister, (bless her), has a Panda, (Fiat type not Bamboo version), and both headlamp seals have gone, (common apparently), and Panda headlamps are mega ££££'s :cursing:
