...and their vans are brilliant! Scudo [sp?] 7 seater was great when we needed to rent one to get the in-laws and nutty aunty + luggage in the back too.

SEAT is also a good choice for the same reason as Skoda ( except they have a sporting image, so occasionally been driven enthusiastically)

I'm currently looking at the Fiat Grande Punto Sport, found one at a big dealer for just under £5k, 21k miles, 07 plate, anyone here got one? Or can convince me to buy/not buy it?

Very low miles but on 5k per year it can cause more problems (discs rusting) than a car that has been used a bit more. Or it has had five years of driving a few miles up the road on a cold engine. So ultra low mileage cars are not a bonus (cars do not seem to run out of miles in them these days).

Fiat generally I think are OK. Bad reputation is from 20 years ago and really does not apply now.

Sounds cheap BUT I think you can get one of that age with say 40,000 on the clock for £4k or indeed a 2008 or 09 car.

If i wanted an Italian sports car (that could be used as a family hatch ) I would not go Fiat - has to be Alfa!

Fiat are still maintaining their bad reputation unfortunately.

My dad's panda has been slowly falling apart since he got it, the standard punto is known for power steering rack failure.

If your not a badge snob get a Kia. You will get much more for your money they have a long warranty so they must be a good car. Highly rated in the motoring press too. My next car will be one as I could not care less about cars and just want something that is reliable and offers good value for money.

As you see most peoples opinions are second hand by a long way. Fiats offer value for money, like all cars get a good one and it is fine get a lemon and it is not. Google any manufacturers and you get horror stories, take for instance my B6 Passat if you listened to all the stories on that model you would not see one left on the roads.

I would say the above post concerning Kia is a good one.

The enemy has a Fiat 500, from new, she's done 50k in in three years and it's been no bother at all. Great little car.

I have an 07 Grande Punto 1.2. It's our second car, so we only use it as an urban run around but I does that job realy well. It struggles on motorways but we dont use it for that.
