My next door neighbour was chucking this out. Worth keeping?

My neighbour is mid-60s and the bike has not been used in a while, from the rusty chain. What do you think?

The brakes were Shimano Ultegra, derailleurs Shimano Tiara. Cheap pedals and gossamer ISIS crank. The wheels were missing (taken by the son, I think). I stripped it down to clean it.

Not worth a lot but could make an interesting project.

Mid 60s? Typo?

Looks much much more recent than that. And according to Wikipedia Trek didn't start til 76. And Two Wheels in Amblecote wasn't established until 77.

Could be a fun project. Or you may find the Ultegra parts re-sellable.

I'd love to say that I realised that all along.

But I was genuinely confused. Idiot.

No need to be hard on yourself; the wording was poor.

Thanks. Might try and find cheap wheels and saddle and give it to someone.

Definitely not a great bike, but no point in throwing the frame out as it looks perfectly serviceable. A new set of wheels and a clean and refresh of the parts should mean that it's a great first entry into road bikes or a cheap winter commuter as it looks to have pannier and mudguard eyelets.

Tyre clearance is likely to be the biggest limiting factor.

I had a Trek 1200 as a first bike (although not this alpha version). You do have to be slightly careful as aluminium does fatigue and it is an old frame, but if the usage has been light and not involved in a crash then it should have some miles left in it.

Purchased from Two Wheels in Stourbridge. I have had a couple of bikes from there in the past. Andy the owner used to do some great deals if you were purchasing a complete bike from there. I remember a few years back some local lad had purchased a mountain bike from another shop. It had some issues and for some reason this lad had decided it was TW job to remedy them (I think he had some MH issues perhaps). He kept turning up regularly (I was in the shop on one occasion) to demand they fix his bike and when they refused he would stand in the shop telling all the other customers the shop were a bunch of cheats and not to do business with them. They obviously knew the lad and would have to resort to calling his dad to then call the son and tell him to go home!
