My other bike ride today, cut short.

Had planned a long motorbike ride on the Honda VFR today, as it has been a while since it got some use.
I got about 6 miles from home when the throttle cable snapped. I managed to get it home (for those who know about these things, it was the "push" cable which closes the throttle that snapped. The "pull" cable to open the throttle still worked so it is rideable but not very smoothly) and have removed the cable which had rusted through.
New cables on order from WeMoto, so in the meantime I guess I'll just need to go for a pedal bike ride!

It's the poor Honda that's been neglected! Haven't been bothering much with recording rides on Strava any more though, so you could be forgiven for thinking that I've been slacking.

Funny how the push bikes seem to draw us away from the engine powered bikes..
i found i was just cleaning and doing pointless tinkering on my last motorbike..
the hardtail was my first need when wanting a bit of me time..
Couple of years earlier 2010 ish you would need to hadcuff me to a lamp post to keep me off my motorbikes..

FYI I have breakdown cover with "Start Rescue" - cost me £34 for the year and they'll pick you up wherever you are and take you home or to a garage of your choice. Worth a punt, and not much lost if you don't need to use it!

That sounds good value. Does it include being rescued in the case of a puncture?

I've got 'Start Rescue' cover.
Just renewed it for the car and caravan and it cost £16.25 for the next year.

My bike is 2004 so perhaps that makes it higher risk of breaking down and thus more expensive? Don't know, but I'm happy to pay that for piece of mind

£34 for bike recovery does sound expensive, when I've got car and caravan cover for less than half that price.

There are a few levels of cover, you'll have to check the website. I have 2 star cover, so they'll not recover if I've run out of fuel, and they won't recover if I've got a puncture but am not carrying an emergency patch repair

That's why then; I've only got 1 star cover, but that's adequate for my needs.

Just checked their website and 2 star cover is from £18.79.

I've found with motorbikes that very few of the big recovery companies are willing to fix stuff at the roadside like they do with cars. It's pretty much recover to home or a garage. This might be why it's more expensive, but I don't mind paying less than a quid a week for it.
