Today's coastal perambulation, Ballymanus strand.

Several people were killed here in 1943 when a mine washed ashore and some of the locals tried to recover it and it exploded.

Only three churches in England have this style of stained glass window. Dates from 14th Century.

Out of interest, what's so unusual about the style? There's lots of medieval stained glass around... the Great East Window of Exeter Cathedral, for instance is mostly 14th century...

At the funeral of my Ultimate Boss (Company Founder) yesterday. He was an avid militarian / historian / military vehicle restorer / participant in crashed plane digs / recovery, collector of militaria etc etc etc

And the local community got together and came out in force to celebrate his life yesterday and form an impressive cavalcade following him on his last journey: to the Church……

The only features of the window visible from a distance are six portrait heads within medallions: Christ, Mary and the Evangelists. Plus the Mary depicted is Mary Magdalene, when most windows depict the Virgin Mary. Close up there are over 70 quarries of birds surrounding the medallions. The window is from the 14th Century.

Aha, thanks. Yes, I like finding little bits of medieval stained glass that have been preserved, and a lot of it is on a small scale.

Exeter Cathedral's Great East Window is obviously on a much grander scale, designed to be appreciated from a distance.
