Took the drone out to see what the river Drôme looked like after the 2-3" of rain on Monday. Better, and not looking quite so muddy today as it did yesterday!
It makes me laugh that every time I share a photo of the Drôme, everyone says "Oh, it's so low!!"... but it is every single August, unless there's a mahoosive storm and several inches of rain along its whole length, as it drains very quickly, and is in limestone country, so a lot of the water seeps away elsewhere.
That said, it is impressive when it is in flood (as you can probably guess by the size of the space it and the pebbles takes up), which is actually extremely rare, and most likely if there's hours of storm rain plus rapid snow melt.
In fact, it's the only major river left in the whole of France which doesn't have any dams from mouth to source, so is classed as France's only 'rivière sauvage', and has quite a lot of ecological interest.

I'll go out on a limb and guess that I'm not going to get a spectacular sunset later on, so I'll plump for this one: last time I took the drone to Pontaix I was in video mode, but I'm coming to the conclusion that getting good stills from good angles is just as good as video, unless I'm 'telling a story' in some way where video brings it to life.
Anyway, here's my pick from them, showing the ruined château, the Drôme river, and the ranges of mountains behind: a view not possible without a drone.
