Well I think I deserve it anyway!
Rebuilt 3 bikes since the autumn, one for my son (1970s Galaxy), one for my mother (gas pipe Dawes), one for my wife (1940s BSA)
Had a lot of help from this forum....so thanks all.
Spent quite a bit on Ebay & with Ribble, Evans, SJS, CRC, Wiggle, WHS etc etc but managed to sneak in to the various orders enough bits & bobs to rebuild the entire drive train of my own "best bike" - a 531ST Galaxy from late 1980s.
Last component (cassette & chain) arrived yesterday - so finally able to fit new rear wheel and this afternoon it was on with the new lycra and out for a ride..... WAHOOOOOOOOOOO!
The new wheels (homebuilt Open Pros on 105 hubs) certainly make a BIG difference.
My usual 28 km circuit that used to take nearly 2 hours was completed in 1h 04 mins with a maximum recorded speed of 62 kph.
My previous max speed was around 49 kph, and I couldnt stop looking at the numbers on the computer I was so chuffed.
Of course kids have a way of taking you down a peg or two....
Pissed themselves laughing when they came home from school & saw 50 y.o. parent in lycra !
