A change of tyres and the addition of a pair of Ortlieb panniers and I was off up the Coast and Castles route for a few days.

Had a fab time, can't wait to go again!

You don't need to do much to go touring. That's pretty much what I did to the kids bikes for a family tour this year and everyone had a great time. Coasts and castles, where is that then?

Nortumberland Coast.

I got the train to Cramlington, joined the NCN Route 1 at Blythe then did a leisurely 30 miles a day to arrive in Berrwick upon tweed on Day 3 before catching the train home.

Very scenic route - Plan to go back to Berwick and cycle up to Edinburgh next year.

I did it a couple of years ago from Edinburgh to Newcastle & would highly recommend it. Fanatastic scenery & was surprised how few hills there were, but it was rather windy on the coastal section & at one point had to pedal downhill into the wind to keep moving

would highly recommend it.

Just one word of advice - check the cafes in Seahouses. Rarely have I been so disgusted as when one such establishment provided me a breakfast of kippers ........ Asda's best "boil-in-the-bag" kippers  Yeeeeeeeeuchhhhh!

Oh dear!

Seahouses is a bit of a mixed bag - good place for an overnight stop.

I stayed in a fab bed and breakfast and had a lovely pub meal - Perfect!

Ah Seahouses  wifey comes from around Berwick. just after we were married we had a trip down the coast and stopped there. Amongst other things wifey decide to purchase a pair of joke handcuffs  After about half an hours walk she wanted to try them out.
MiL was the only one willing ( silly woman ) So she proceeded to handcuff her to a lamp post  After a couple of minutes of joking debate about leaving her there MiL started to get rather irrate. Wifey decided it was time to get the keys. Oh dear ! They didnt fit  Well the barrage of expletives turned the air red. I had to leg it back to the shop for a new set of keys. The shopkeeper had to lock up and bring all the keys he had. After about an hour she was finally released. This all happened on a freezing Jan day.
We had lovely fish and chips, and a very enjoyable day, except MiL of course.

P.S. I was all for leaving her there by the way
