In Red as its fastest

Bought new a couple of weeks back from Decathlon in Lakeside. Plan is to keep it as is for the next month whilst i get used to it and then look to change the pedals and possibly the wheels. I do not find the saddle to uncomfortable, put 30k on it today and it seems okay. I do notice a noisy chain though, would some chain lube be advisable?

Flip the stem and straighten those bars out. You will get the same riding position and he shifters will be pointing down

It is a suggestion dude - are you looking for an argument?

I know because i had the same set up thinking it was right - over time and asking friends that ride with me, i changed it and i am more comfortable.

It was and is a suggestion - i'm not forcing him to do it !

Thanks for the replies all.

I am all very new to this so this could be a great suggestion or it could not be for me. Is there any photos or examples of this modification that i can read up on / look at?

Just fiddle and IDE and fiddle and ride I'm still trying to dial in my riding position on my new bike. By flipping the stem you will lower the bars this has a Major aerodynamic advantage but its not for everyone and start out with the bars level do a few miles see if its comfy wrist ache etc if so move up or down dependent on your feelings.

Personally I have the stem flipped and slammed but I still have spacers above the stem in case I need to adjust the height and my bars are almost level the is comfy for me but its not for everyone.

Just google bike cockpit setup and look here http://lovelybike.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/drop-bar-hand-positions-introduction.html for all the different hand positions and see if your comfy

All going well. Changed the pedals today, just need to get the confidence up with stopping but already feel more settled in the saddle. Question though, should the pedal remain in the upright position when the foot is not in it? Mine looks like something needs tightening up as the weight on the back of the pedal flip it upside down.

Have to say, that's one thing that annoys me about road pedals (hanging nose up when you're unclipped), but it's purely down to physics in that there's more weight in the tail due to the spring and tension adjuster than there is in the nose. I'd even thought about getting self adhesive lead weights to stick under the nose to make them sit horizontal, but not sure if it's worth the bother.

Unless they're double sided, the logical option is nose up weighting, as this allows you to dial your clip-in technique consistently (allegedly and supposedly) by dipping your toe and then hooking the loop, if they were neutrally weighted and not double sided, then it's pot luck what side falls upward and requires you to look down and swivel the pedals to find the clip in.

That's the theory, although too thick grease means it never works quite right for me and I'm often left faffing with the second clip in on the left side !

Well after a 25k and a 40k today I only came off the bike once purely because I forgot I had the cleats and gravity took over as I stopped. By then it was to late. A smashed up knee and elbow but mainly the ego damaged. Glad the other half found it hilarious
Live and learn, off to look at the next modification
