Nice !
Do you find the handlebars a bit of a stretch ?, i know its all down to how you like them but most people have the bars rotated so the bit before the shifters is close to level .
Piccie of my self build bike without tape .

The commute bike has 16 gears with a 50/36 compact and a 12-25 cassette.
After a google it seems your bike has a traditional 52/42 chainrings so maybe it might be an idea to get a bigger range of gears at the back ?
If you have not got the tools take it to the LBS as you might have a freewheel...

Or a freehub with a cassette

And they are not compatible so its best to get the right one .
According to google you have the 1st one , the freewheel . 14 -28 so you could maybe go a bit bigger if the rear deraillier can handle it .

Another option is to replace the chain rings with smaller ones , although you probably would need to drop the front mech slightly (?) and adjust it .

i was thinking about that i think it is a freewheel but was worried about the gear lever change i.e.
the left one has three click but only uses two and right one moves 7 if that makes sense

Nice looking bike that

52/42 front rings? Crikey, that could be hard work on the hills for a beginner. The only other thing that sprigs to mind is that the saddle looks extremely low. Do you have it at the right height? If it's too low, it will make it much harder work and will be hard on your knees.

Have you checked your saddle height as well ? if its to low then it can make the bike harder to ride

Your heel should be on the pedal with the leg straight to give the right amount of bend when your riding.

The left one is for the front ring, the extra click is normally to "trim" the mech if it rubs on the chain.

I think those are Tourney shifters? Could be a left shifter for a triple, but in double mode. I don't think that group has a trim function.

As long as it all works, it is nothing to worry about.
