My younger brother hasn't cycled since his teens - he's mid 20's now, and a keen runner (been running a couple of years) and is starting to take the running more seriously - 10k's etc.

As extra training, he want's to get out on a bike. So, I've offered to sort his old MTB out - it's a reasonable Emmelle BSO, no suspension which is a plus. He's just turned up with new Michelin Trail tyres, tubes, new bar ends and a Selle Italia XO Saddle, and the old bike.....

If he get's the bug, he'll look at something much better, but this will keep him going - mainly farm tracks/canal etc, no serious off road.

So another cyclist in the making ?

Have you warned him Fossy about the implications of getting hooked? Does he know what he is getting into? Does he have the willpower not to continually persuse his LBS and online sites for bike (s) bits and bobs?

Not yet, but his running is getting the same way....... (planning on one of the Garmin Forerunners soon) he was eyeing up my Hope lights though....(worth more than his bike)....

Once he get's a decent bike, that will be it. He's got a good off road circuit near my folks to try out.

I might be looking to sell my Sirrus for a good* price this summer if a friend isn't able to take it. He could have first dibs if he wanted. It's got nice wheels.

* good to him, not me.

All done.

New parts....

2 x tyres, 2 x tubes, pair bar ends, new seat pin, new saddle, brake pads and cables, a good oil, clean and wax.

Probably cost £70 to get the worn out bits sorted.
