This looks kind of funky, and has a flip-flop wheel so you get two gears if you turn the wheel around.

Not for me though - too hilly here!

Build one up? You can get 501 frames pretty cheap, and you'll prob spend less than £150 - most of that being on a wheelset

The Schwinn is £300
The build route is interesting.
I find it odd that there is nothing like that $99 dollar bike in the UK, I guess it's too cheap maybe doesn't meet safety rules?

There are such as No Logo or Create single speeds on Ebay which go for a little over £150 much like you would find here:

Mango is a little bit more expensive:

Personally, I think converting an old steel frame racer would get you a terrific bike for the same cost which would last longer.

You are probably right but it's harder than you think around here to find that old steel frame racer in the right size, that someone hasn't already done up and is selling for a lot of money

Lol - true enough.

I guess you could try cycle jumble sales or markets but you can never be sure that they are not nicked.

Good luck!

If budget so small and journeys so short, why not just walk?

Sub £150 folder, don't need to worry about theft

Rutland cycling might be on quidco for the SS Schwinn

Asda have some sub £150 BSOs on their site, with a few gears though as do Tesco

This is pretty cheap, might find cheaper http://www.amazon.co.uk/Viking-Campus-Gents-Traditional-Single/dp/B00BCGYOYE

Or do we have a winner...?
