Whilst I do rather like the n+1 justification, it has occurred to me than n-1 applies to me.
n being number of bikes owned and n-1 being the number of bikes not actually in working order. Maybe if I used the n+1 argument n-1 would reduce to n-2 so to speak. Or would bike n then end up joining bike(s) n-1 having something half upgraded awaiting completion of the job.
By was of excuse n= a modest 2 in my case, but the awaiting fixing duration is in years
