I'm one of those people who have trouble telling a spider plant from a spider and I need help. About four years ago we bought a pot plant from the Co-op and decided to plant it in a dark and shady corner of the back garden. Since then it's grown and grown.
About two weeks ago it started to sprout some kind of flower head, something it's never done before, and it's turned out really beautiful, brightening up the autumn garden. If I show you some pictures will you have a look? For all I know it could be a triffid. What do you think? Perhaps if others have a mystery plant they could add a pic in here to get an answer.

Here's a close up of a flower bauble...

And how it looks on the new growth (maybe 12-18 inches)

And the whole plant...

And a close-up of a leaf...

One more nice flower head...

Any ideas? Or is there a plant you have that you might want identifying?

Cheers

Fatsia Japonica.

Jeez- I love how it probably took the OP longer to create the thread than it did for GF to reply with the answer!
I now know where to post with any future plant ID questions.

My info came from the RHS - you'd better tell them!
Looking at the wiki P page for 'castor oil plant' it says fatsia japonica is known as the false castor oil plant.

Anyway, I just found this growing in the loft. Any ideas?

Fatsia's common name is "False Castor Oil Plant", often mislabelled cos garden centres avoid using the word false.

Your loft plants could get you in trouble red rider, let me know where you are, I'll come and dispose of them for you. Got any cheesy Wotsits?
