We finished this ride recently, another excellent ride.
We drove up and stayed at the quirky Moresby Hall nr Whitehaven the night before. Excellent hosts and heated bike storage, food & staff good, hotel needs a little TLC.
Day 1 we rode 55 miles to Burgh by Sands, absolutely soaked but lovely route. Coffee at Maryport Golf Club, average but was cheap and came with a penguin bar. Lunch at the fairy dust cafe in Silloth, highly recommended. Wife picked us up from Burgh on Sands and took us to Fiddleback Farm B & B, which was excellent and had a warm dry garage to store our bikes. Dinner at a local pub was underwhelming.
Day 2 we rode 42 miles to Haltwhistle, soaked again but great riding. Coffee at Eden Vale Golf club, nice but not great. Lunch at Lanercost Priory, excellent. A few cheeky hills before the nasty one at Greenhead. Dinner was again underwhelming at the Greenhead hotel. B & B at Wydon Farm, excellent accommodatio, breakfast and bike storage.
Day 3, 59 miles to Tynemouth, soaked again, dry at the end. Coffee at Tynevale Golf Club, average, lunch at Prudhoe Tyne Riverside Cafe, lovely but was hoping for fresh quiche or pork pie as seen on line.
A much easier C2C than WOTR, but with 32% traffic free cycle paths and quieter roads generally it felt safer. I had three punctures, but I was the only one, maybe my choice of tyres or pressures increased the chances.
My wife driving in between locations makes these rides so much more enjoyable.
