...and this, children, is why it's a speed limit, not a target speed.

Would he still be around, Dodger, if you'd been doing 40, I wonder? Or 50?

No need to tell me Unc! or the kids in kent now I am on the case!

Coming to a shopping mall near you soon! ha ha the embarrassing part of the job, thankfully I am not going to be a singing street light!

Well done for not killing the chap Rog, although he doesn't sound like much of a loss....

Sit and have a cuppa of whatever does it for you.

I'm all for driving carefully and all that (never had an accident, claim, points) but he does sound like a potential darwin awards candidate. If that's an example of how he usually cycles he's going to run out of luck at some point.

Was driving along one of the main roads into Leicester (Lutterworth Road for locals) doing 26mph in a 40 zone when the scruffy bloke riding a knackered cheapo mountain bike on the pavement suddenly turned right and jumped off the kerb and straight in front of me. How I missed him neither I nor the cops in the Police car following me will ever know.

He was high on drugs and had no idea what he was doing.

It could have been a very different outcome.

I'm still a bit shakey.

you of course were at fault - as the proposed change in the law makes clear

It would only be his fault if it couldn't be proved that it was the cyclists fault. As there were witnesses hilldodger would have been in the clear.

I regularly have to cycle a road which has a 60 mph limit. People often drive it at anything up to 85 mph. It has frequent junctions, with SLOW painted in the road. It has pedestrian crossings. It has bus stops on it for f***'s sake!

I'd have a word with the local highways authority. Sounds like it should have a 40mph limit. Here in Swindon, quite a few speed limits have been lowered in recent years. Not a panacea, of course, but it's a start.

Nonsense, and that just proved you only read what you want to see, and probably in the Daily Mail.

The true meaning of the proposed law (which, amazingly, seems to work all over Europe without vast miscarriages of justice) is explained over and over, and yet some people manage never to understand....
