I was cycling down a small but very steep hill along one of the side streets. There's a crossroads at the bottom of the hill, but no traffic lights or anything. I am careful going down that hill anyway in case of any traffic coming the other way, but especially careful at that time of the morning because there are kids going to school. On this occasion, I see a group of primary school children and I cycle to avoid them. Most of them see me but one runs out onto the road and then turns back and stands right in front of me as he hears his mother call out to him. I had to brake full on and stopped with inches to spare. Then I cycled around him as his mother continued to tell him off. I don't think he even noticed me.

Kids are so unpredictable and so you cant really swerve around them either incase they move again, I always give them tons of space but ive still had to brake really hard when one blindly runs out into the road in front of me. At least the mother shouted at the child, its proper bite your tongue territory when they shout at you, despite your awareness and decent brakes saving their kid from injury.

:bravo: for being aware and alert to the danger and skilful enough to respond in time.

Pity the mother didn't apologise to you - but she was probably so concerned for the child and his actions that she didn't have time to say anything to you.

Have a peaceful evening ! :heat:

As a parent I suspect that you are correct - that she was worried and cross and perhaps annoyed that she not managed to stop it happening.

Well done, for being aware and reacting in time! I'm a parent of a bright 12 year old, but common sense sometimes evades him! They are unpredictable things!
