You've been knocked off ?

You have £1k to spend - is that your cash to get another bike in mean time (i.e. claim process) ?

Secteurs are great for commuting btw.

I commuted on a Secteur Elite for 2 years.
In fact I just sold it on today to another forum member.

Cracking commuter bikes as wot Fossy said.
You won't be disappointed
I notice it does have the new Tiagra 10 speed which is basically the old 105 trickled down.
It also has bosses if you use a pannier.

That is the quest[ion i was going to ask, does the OP want the option to mount panniers ? for that distance i certainly would be carrying stuff in panniers , i only do 10 miles each way and i would not like to go back to a backpack as the list of "essentials " grows .

I only need a back pack (travel light :-) ) as most kit says at work so panniers just something to make the trip fast !
Nice ,my commute is mostly country lanes at times when no ones about so if i break down i need to fix it (hopefully )
Currently i carry....
2 tubes
pump
tyre levers
repair kit
multi tool
quick link
tyre boot
chain breaker
zipties
rainlegs
light jacket
arm+legwarmers
waterproof overshoes
sandwhiches
work clothes for the day

thinking of adding a folding tyre and one of those packable foil blanket to that list
I once had a double flat at 8 pm in the middle of winter with only 1 tube and it was so cold the glue was not setting , by the time i got the wife to pick me up i was frozen .

Have major problem now decided and have chq from Insurence company cashed the bike in this post is now discontinued and unavailable in my size :-( need some options of similar spec bike at no more than £1000 help only have two more days train ticket left!!

just put a deposit down on one of these ! they look awesome and figured worth the extra 150 ( old one was 900 with full tiagra which i got from insurance) for 105 kit.
Top man  I've always been told to buy the best frame you can in your budget, (it's easier and cheaper to upgrade components than it is the frame), and the CAAD frames are second to none. OK the 8 has been surpassed by the 9 and now the 10, but the CAAD8 is still a fantastic bike.

Don't forget the obligatory pics when you get it
