There' are a few Audi dealership buildings built to the same design- there's one on Scotswood Road in Newcastle- wouldn't like to be the structural engineer who designed it...

I seem to have touched a nerve somewhat. Perhaps my rather clumsy OP should have referred instead to a feeling of mild satisfaction when the overwhelming dominance of car culture in the UK takes even the slightest of hits. The car seems to be some kind of masturbatory fetishised status symbol for some people in the UK, which I've always found a bit odd. Particularly considering the collateral damage that goes with that culture. To suggest hints of jealousy is to spectacularly miss the point. I'm simply much happier on a bicycle and wish the place had fewer cars around to spoil it. If that's an offensive viewpoint then so be it! :boxing:

Well said and I mostly agree:okay:. Better that the cars hadn't been manufactured in the first place tho'. Then at least the Carbon Emissions for those wouldn't have added to the overall problem. All that's happened here is a little local difficulty which will be smoothed over fairly soon. It won't change a thing.

Despite the car culture bike culture is making a huge change to things and many drivers are more aware of bikes now.

Glow worm, you said earlier that you use a car, should you be the only one doing so?

No thanks! I loathe driving. On the rare occasions it happens its often shifing sh muck to the allotment, or taking stuff to the tip -generally only stuff what I cant do on the bike.

A man with a van would be a lot cheaper. Many people get pleasure out of owning a nice car, after 45 years in the motor trade I am not one of them, come to think about it I have never had a great interest in cars, I do though accept we all like different things.

That is the sign of a proper person in my book, you can disagree with them and still get a like. You have my respect for that.

Now if I could get my hands on the numpty in the Audi that tailgated me today, well.

Cheers! It would be a dull world and all that.....I only really come on here for a laugh and to talk cycling. It's a great forum. My OP was clumsily written and I perhaps misjudged, or 'Blattered' (my favourite new word) the likely response. :okay:

Just seen this....

Righty..

The article said the top floor had collapsed, but also made reference to the ramp up to the first floor being used as a car park.

Said ramp won't have been designed to take more than 2 or 3 cars at a push, hence it all comes down.

Structural engineers attending.... Audi prides themselves on Engineering... voresprung duh doo dah

It's funny when you read it.

Reminds me of a mates stag do, he worked for Audi. They made him a set of stocks, but the bloody hand holes were massive, he got his hands out. He couldn't get his head out so we legged it in Taxis to the next venue, he had to try and get in a taxi with a 4 foot stock round his neck, except his hands were free... Bloody Audi engineers.
