That bike Grant Fondo posted is almost certainly a nice bike, whether it would suit you are not is another matter and subject to a road test.

The opinions you allude to are typical of the twaddle spouted by some people - as if a £1400 Ally Pin' is not going to be a decent bike; words fail me at times.

So....I've gone for a Cube Agree GTC Race in a 58cm. Already questioning my decision though. I didn't ask about warranty and I know Trek and Giant offer a lifetime frame warranty etc. Also I only compared and test rode it against a Trek 2.1 58cm (which didn't feel right for me, everything felt big and awkward), a Wilier Izoard XP 105 Large (which I only tried as they didn't have a large in the La Triestina) & a Cube Agree GTC again in a 58cm. I didn't try a Defy 1 for some reason which I am thinking I should have? And because I'm 6'1 but longish legs and short torso I'm thinking I should have tried the Trek in a 56cm and a maybe the Trek 3.1 as direct price point comparison.

It's an average alu frame with sub-average componentry for the price point. Why do you find it strange that people might advise against it?

Well last year BR had it as a 2012 bike of the year contender at £1399 - at sub £1k if it suits the rider it may well be a great bargain.

Strangely terms like 'sub-average spec'' are not trotted out when Spesh take the proverbial by slapping Sora on their £1300-1400 bikes; that's always touted as an upgrading opportunity.

Pound to a penny an awful lot of riders would get on that Pin' and if it fitted properly they would be happy as Larry with it.

Sure. There's a lot of average bikes and most will be happy on theirs. There are some outstanding bikes out there though in that price bracket and the FP1 ain't one of them.

I disagree about the Specialized thing though, they are notorious for it, and reviews generally pull them up on it.

Now I'm concerned I've ordered the wrong size as apparently Cubes have a shorter top tube and most people need to go up a size than their usual size? I'm 6'1" and an inside leg of 34". I also think I'm shorter in the torso/longer in the leg, which makes me think I'm probably better off with a shorter top tube. I've also looked on the Cube website and they recommend multiply my inside leg (in CM's) by 0.665 to determine my frame size which equals 57cm approx. I'm just confused. The LBS are going to do a bike fit when the bike arrives but they are ordering especially for me, so they are going to be keen to ensure I take it, so how honest will they be if it's not the right size? Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Can't see why it won't fit - only 1cm difference so looks like it is bang-on for you.

Just thought I'd thank you all for your help, I've bought the Cube Agree Race and went out on my proper ride tonight and I'm impressed. It's leaps and bounds an improvement on my old bike. A few adjustments required and hopefully it will be even better.
