Got to say I loved the stretch in 2010 when it was minus 15 and snowing. Then it was minus 10 for a few days. The skin on my face didn't like it, cracked and went red raw.

I used the cheapest one from tesco. Your supermarket may vary . The wood chip litter is not good needs to be the granule type stuff. It is also good for putting under any triumph motorbike as absorbs oil too

Its when you've cycled in in -12 on ice and when you get in your work mates can't understand why you didn't use the car.

Bag of granules in the morning it is then. My running shoes seem permanently wet.

Winter 2010-11 saw that regularly and got me the promotion. The can do attitude to getting in was mentioned at the interview.

Learned the hard way today of the perils of not having a mudguard. Would not have had wetter feet of I'd walked through a river. So mudguards required for 32c road tyres. Man!!!!

Also need a proper jacket or I'll go from healthy through ill to dead in about 3 - 5 days. Was cold and wet today - not a great combo!

Feet keep slipping so need clipless pedals/shoes.

And need some degreaser/disc cleaner/lube etc to keep my bike in condition through winter crud.

There's at least £200 in the above!

Actually scrap that, it's a one off purchase.

I'd be inclined to buy everything in small increments until you are fully stocked, then it's free riding for year on year

I change the jacket annually £90 night vision. Mainly because I abuse stuff and I end up snagging it and ripping it on the racks or the levers of door handles. That's 2 weeks tube fares for a lot of riding. Winter boots have lasted 2 winters and have another one in them at least. Graingers or nikwax is a great way to keep em tip top
