Flash is working fine, if I click on the link the computer downloads and tries to play it with the VLC media player

Hmm - it doesn't work with my copy of VLC either, but it works in tabs in all of my browsers (Opera, Chrome, Firefox, IE).

yes its strange, it won't open in the browser it goes straight to download, must be a setting somewhere, or its something to do with my Lubuntu operating system.

I can't help you there! One day I will put some flavour of Linux on an old laptop or my old desktop pc, but for now I am still stuck using Win XP Pro on this laptop.
