In the dugout at Tyncastle during the 2nd half of the Celtic game V Hearts.

The witch hunt against Lennon is getting beyond a joke now. This idiot ran past security and made a beeline for the Celtic manager. He could've been carrying anything. Hearts are in deep trouble with the SFA now.

Football's a sick game.

The Old Firm seems to have become one (not football generally)

I'd be fascinated to know why Lennon has been so targetted this year cookiemonster (apart from the obvious of being a Catholic Ulsterman).

He has been amazingly calm to carry on, with bombs being sent to him, etc.

Why would a Hearts fan go for him? Excuse my ignorance, but are they a potestant team as well?

Apparently he has been under threat for a decade and has a police response 'panic' button at his home! It must surely be time for the person or organisation behind this to be caught.

It would seem that 2 of them have been caught......

However the problem up here goes much, much deeper than the Rangers/Celtic thing. That is just an outlet for the trouble. If the 2 football teams ceased to exist tomorrow, these morons would find something else to battle about. It has even less to do with religion either; most of these people have little or no interest in religion other than "I'm a protestant/catholic, and you're not, so I'm going to rip your head off!"

IMHO it is a problem with the culture around here and it will take a lot of time and effort to erradicate it. At least there are small signs of it weakening. When you go for a job now, the first question is no longer "What school did you go to?" (even if you left school 30 years ago; it's to ascertain your religion!).

I'm just glad that last nights incident at Tynecastle when Lennon was assaulted by a Hearts fan didn't happen at Ibrox (Rangers ground) or all hell would have erupted. And Rangers might have had points deducted....

Martin O'Neill was a Roman Catholic, played for Northern Ireland and managed Celtic with no problems whatsoever!!!

Why would a Hearts fan go for him?

He recently accused Hearts, Dundee United, Motherwell and every other Scottish club of "Not Trying" against Rangers.

I got the impression he winds it up a bit more than he should.

Hearts are a protestant team, and Lennon accused them of not being at their best against Rangers, effectively giving Rangers three points and, thusly, the title. I'm sure that there's no truth in this.......

Football is a funny old game. Sir Alec Ferguson's mate, Sam Allardyce got sacked by Blackburn's new owners. Ferguson has let it be known that he'll play a reserve team against Blackpool in the last match of the Premiership season - citing the proximity of the Champions Cup final - although whether 6 days is proximal or not is a matter we can all take a view on. He's told Blackpool's manager, Ian Holloway that he'd pick himself if he needed to. Co-incidentally, it's possible that fielding an understrength squad would be to the disadvantage of Blackburn, who are still at risk of relegation.

Be that as it may........the sectarian abuse and threats against Lennon are an outrage, and the sectarianism inside the Rangers ground is an outrage, and one that the club doesn't have the will to stop - but, then again, a club that employs El-Hadji Diouf isn't really in the best position to start a moral crusade. The SFA has, perhaps wisely, perhaps out of indolence, deferred to the police, who, judging by this morning's arrests, are determined to crack down. They have, in the past, visited the dressing rooms prior to Old Firm matches and reminded players of their responsibilities.

All of which pales in to insignificance when you consider the religious divide in Glasgow, perpetuated by a rancidly sectarian education system.

The comparison with Martin O'Neill is unfair. Lennon didn't bring the abuse he suffered in Northern Ireland on himself. He quit, and, for whatever reason, he's been a target ever since. My suspicion is that Rangers fans go for him because they think he's vulnerable - something that I wouldn't say of Martin O'Neill

Rubbish, Neil gets it's because he's a hated figure, everyone to the sectarian media, the SFA who have been found guilty in showing favour for Rangers and lying about Celtic, the BBC Scotland dept who constantly gets fans to phone in with their comments about Neil, the Daily Record who have been running a campaign against Celtic for years on the orders of David Murray and Rangers the editor Peter Cox had to resign and pay compo to Neil and Celtic for lying about them, the referee's run by Hugh Dallas who had to resign following him sending anti Catholic emails around the office and to fellow ref's, one particular distasteful one about the Pope, getting match reports altered to cover up severe sectarian singing by Rangers fans and songs about Tommy Burns (deceased Celtic hero) and Jock Stein..... i could go on and on and i will later, this is not an Old Firm Problem it's a Rangers problem, a society problem.

The very same can be said for Celtic also.
Both clubs are as bad as each other in regards to that.

+1.

BOTH sets of supporters chant songs which are pro terrorist organisations, anti Protestant/Catholic, and anti Pope/Queen etc..
