Nature has been risking it for a few years, but just escaping - rabbits, dogs, hare, deer, red squirrels- they all toyed with death but just dodged my wheels, until today. Coming home from work via the coast, a huge rat hoyed itsel under the bike and wez deed (a thowt see gannin on the skwaal from thi wifey ahind). Less than a minute later a seagull unloaded on my helmet (fnaar) leaving me to meditate on the Gaian nature of reality, and the fact that I still had an hour to go, covered in birdshit.

Thanks to four years of schooling in Alnwick, I actually understood that. I've nearly been offed by a rabbit and two deer in the past few months, so nature can fik off as far as I'm concerned.

I rolled over a Squirell the other day, in preference to swerving over the corpse into the path of a car, a lot more solid than I would have imagined, like hitting a thick hose !

Maybe as winter draws in, and food becomes scarce, altruistic rats scarifice themselves for the good of the community?
I had one make a bee-line for my rear wheel the other night.

Kamakazi pheasants are my problem at the moment. Nearly offed twice last week by them.

Seriously, you don't want to get hit by one of them. I saw on some crappy tabloid TV prog a motorcylists who took a pheasant to the head (he did not have his visor down) and the injuries were very nasty.

On a lighter note, a conker fell from a tree and hit me a few weeks back causing me to swerve in shock. The perils of cycling, eh?
