Plain voile works well and lets plenty of light through. I need to get mine back up again after the windows were replaced. Curtains permanently drawn in sitting room as the bikes live in here!
Also do you need to cover the whole window or just the bottom half? That would give you more light. Depends on the situation of the window.

I'd go for voile - you can get patterned ones as well as plain. Depending on the size of the window I'd maybe drape it across from one side only. I don't much like the hourglass effect.

Instead of nets have you considered some of that frosting film? You can get some nice ones, I see them around Bristol (Redland, Ashley Down and Bishopston areas I think), quite a bit, often only applied over the lower half of a window. If you want I can try to take some photos if I see some next week to show what I mean?
That's what I was gonna say.

If you want the privacy fine but if your neighbour is telling you what they want you to do with your house tell them to **** off. Nets are disgusting, I'd put up a blind, still let's plenty of light in, has to be horizontal slats though otherwise it looks like an office.
Just don't let 3bm put them up if you want them the right side of the window.

I'd rather brick the window up than put nets up. Besides what's the point. You can still see out. Maybe they don't want to look at you Spinney

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Voile curtains look nice, and can be tied back if and when needed to let more light in. I hate net curtains and got rid of all of mine. Then again, I don't have any neighbours. Id go for voile.
