realistically, if you want to play current games, you should be looking at a PC with a dedicated graphics card. laptops with an onboard video chip might cope with championship manager and perhaps more text-based games but they won't cope well with heavy graphics-driven ones like cod etc

One of my Laptops has a Nvidia Go7900GS. Plays most things at medium res. Latest titles (or badly coded ones) are not playable is the only issue. I don't disagree that a PC desktop is a better solution for gaming though.

No idea what GFX is in this Tesco computer the OP linked to, or playing games is a requirement for them either.

Well I bought that Tesco box in the end, as he doesnt need a high end graphics card...
Seems pretty good, even if a little noisy HDD.

Might try that CCL Online place next time I want something. Prices look pretty good.

Next question....how does one go about buying another licence for MS Office 2003 Home & Student, with all the f@@king about trying to install Win 7 and reverting to Vista, re-installing Office etc. I've maxed out the activations on my disk. I don't want 2007, and I don't want to buy a dodgy one. Googled it but not sure anything I've found at a reasonable price is entirely kosher.

There aren't many systems made in the last half decade or so that can't run Win 7, assuming you have the correct 32 bit version.

Mostly it's network cards (especially wireless) that can cause issues. I'd just disable everything in BIOS and install from there. Buying a complete new system seems a bit excessive. Surely you must know someone who could help. Also what's wrong with XP, assuming is came with the computer? There is almost certainly a restore disk.

Blaming Dell because you can't install an OS that didn't exist at the time seems harsh to me.
