I cleared out my commuting bag on Monday and found about twenty spare batteries which were a bit manky as they had been rubbing together on my commmutes.I now have 4 spare AA and 3 spare AAA batteries (Alkaline) (wrapped in tape or still in the packet.
A spare front and two spare rear lights.

Oh, don't worry about the zealots. Cheapo flashing LEDs are fine for urban riding. Just change the batteries when they need it...don't ever think 'oh, they're a bit feeble but I'll get another ride out of them'. If you notice they're anything other than bright 'n shiny, change the batteries now.

Dynamo works for me. Lovely it is too.

But I do have a spare battery front and rear in the bag just incase. Batteries get changed about once a year, and normally migrate into a remote control for the TV.
