Following on from possibly the most inspired and original threads yet posted, about bands and guitar solos - What is your favourite bass line?

I have loads, but top of the list must be Mike Dirnt of Green playing 'Longview'

But coming a bloody close second is Dr Matt Destruction of The Hives playing 'Hate To Say I Told You So' Not often a bass gets focus like that in a band.

Honourable mention goes to Robert De Leo of Stone Temple Pilots for his incessant low-end thumping on 'Crackerman'

Any thread about bass players is incomplete, IMHO, without the one, the only, Les Claypool....

and the one, the only, Michael Balzary. AKA Flea (as an ardent Chilis fan before they started turning out MOR junk, I pine for the old days and pour scorn on the 'fans' who go silent at gigs when they actually dig out an old number). NSFW as all the decent stuff was ;)

Bruce Foxton and Jim Lea

Lee Rocker is the best bass player* without a shodow of a doubt,
Earl Slick underrated guitarist bonus...

Got the 'Phantom, Rocker & Slick' album on vinyl (Men Without Shame)

I'll back up Lee Rocker being a great 'slap' Bass player

Mark Winchester, who plays for the 'Brian Setzer Orchestra'

Paul Harman in Restless (& his brother Mark on lead guitar)

Dave Philips (on Bass, with Mark Harman -pre Restless on lead Telecaster)

Jaco Pastorius is the undisputed king, and modern day, Hadrien Feraud. Untouchable for their all round technical and compositional genius! Case closed

I quite like the bass track on this song - Holiday Road by Lindsay Buckingham. Such a happy, feel-good tune!
