can't really be doing with the relentless wobblyness of jacko pastorious... sorry.

idealy a good bassline should be throbbing, repetitve, relentless and bassy... they don't have to be all noodly like a guitar riff.

Walk on the wildside is perfect. Simple, seductive and double tracked.

Money by Pink Floyd, does it's job.

This one... by <hangs head>Tears for Fears</hands head> is a cracker. not many notes, soon drowned out by guitars but a fab throbber none the less...

and another from Gong

I bet that's the first time Gong and Tears for Fears have appeared in the same post!

this thread reminds me of this joke.....
A man goes on safari in deep, dark Africa. As soon as he gets there, he notices the tribal drumming in the background. When he meets his guide the next day, he asks if the drumming ever stops. The guide tells him you get used to it - then hands him a revolver and a single bullet. The guide tells him that if the drums ever stop, he is to use the bullet to end his own life and spare himself the torture. The guide shows him that he carries a similar setup, but refuses to speak of it any further.

Two weeks go by, drumming in the background 24/7 as they bushwhack through the back country finding old ruins and elephant graveyards. Then the drumming stops. The guide freaks out and starts tearing his pack apart looking for his gun, screaming, "Save yourself! HURRY!" The man stares in disbelief and yells back, "WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE DRUMS STOP!?!"

The guide looks him dead in the eye with a look of terror and whispers, "Bass solo."

woah, mind = boggled.

A bunch of us were hanging out with her at an ATP a few years back, she stood watching The Fall(iirc) with a beer in one hand and her knitting in the other, so cool.

If Maz's stickleback counts, I can get away with this:

I am pleased to have lived my formative teenage years in the 70's and 80's with the brilliant music we had.

Can't help but feel the kids nowadays are having the piss taken out of them by record companies. There's a definite need for a current-day punk-style movement cos the industry and the 'man' need reminding who is the customer.........
