Anything by Steve Harris
.
Steve Harris +1 ... but you missed my fav final 60 seconds ever of any rock song. Driving drums, overlaid with twin guitars and bass interchanging seemlessly and they build to the crashing finale. Listen from about 5:30 .. or from 3:50 if you want the full build up and don't mind the vocals.

On IM - that drummer left after that album and I don't think IM were quite the same. Bruce's vocals are OK .. but .. ach maybe I'm just getting old

It's taken two years to mention Bassinvaders or Death From Above 1979?

DFA1979 are particular favourites of mine and they're back on tour soon. Well worth seeing if you get the chance. Jesse hammers his bass like he absolutely hates the thing.

I haven't seen John Deacon get a mention. Dragon Attack has a great bass line but everything he did with Queen was great.

+1 to Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Stanley Clarke and Jaco Pastorius.

I'd like to add Dave Holland, Paul Jackson, Harvey Brooks and Michael Henderson. Between them they have played most of my favourite jazz fusion bass lines.

Special mentions go to Cliff Burton. Gone but definitely not forgotten.
