No. When they first released them in Oz back in the nineties eighties, a reporter put them in the oven and they shrunk. So they shredded them and went back to drawing board. The UK ones are based on the Australian ones.

Fun fact : we had a compost bin made of recycled $10 notes.

They've just replaced the Aussie $5 note as well. It now has a plastic clear strip down the middle!
My OH finally got one just this last week. They were released on the 1st Sept 2016. http://banknotes.rba.gov.au/banknote-features/

Apparently they have been accused of ageism for making the Queen look rather younger than she is.

I'm in oz at the moment and that is one ugly bank note. Hopefully I get my hands on one before I leave.

(they won't circulate as quickly as the £5, as the existing currency is also polymer, so will take years to disappear. )

Haven't got my hands on one of those yet, but all I can say right now is .

They've changed the currency over the past few years, but still quite a stodgy looking upgrade. I'd like to see a bit more flamboyance.
