My old 360 arcade has finally passed away. I am looking to replace it with the new slim version, i have googled for the answer, none give it to me straight!!

can i pull out the 4gig hdd from a new machine and drop in my 250 gig hdd from my old machine with all the saved games etc. physically i knowit can be done but is there any software jiggerypokery i need to perform?

The 4 gig machine just has flash memory, no drive, but does have a slot for the HDD.

It's not supposed to fit, that's why there is a data transfer cable offered and I believe the new drive is SATA, but there appears to be stuff on the web about making a drive 'fit' - how neat it would be, I dunno, and you'd not have to void the warranty ?

TBH the 250gb Xbox is only £50 more than the 4gb.

yh, other sites say you wont fall foul of live. the 250 version comes with a removable hdd. yh i know not much more but money is tight i only recently upgraded my old 360, so will have a redundant hdd lying around.

Just in case you are unaware, Microsoft offers 3 year warranty for the old xboxes for the notorious overheating design fault (commonly known as the red ring of death). All you need to do is to ring a number, a chat and they email you a label, free pick up and delivery (in my case a brand new one) in a week.
