When I first became a granddad I found it odd that people would congratulate me when I hadn't done anything (recently). So congratulations to the mother and father, and enjoy your granddaddery!

I can see what you are saying, especially with you living in a city. I definitely wouldn't want to take young children out on the A646 which is the only road through this valley.
OTOH you can get hit just walking on the pavement - a few years back, two women here were crushed against a wall by a van which mounted the pavement when the driver looked down to change a cassette.

I've just got back from the hospital, Lucy's in an incubator so we just said hello took a couple of pictures, had a chat with mum and dad and then left.
