I/we are about to have a daughter within the next few weeks but are stuck for a name. Of course, we have a few ideas, but... well... you know - we're not wholly convinced.

Inspired by the 'new puppy' thread and the barrage of sensible names offered there i've thought of throwing the naming debate open to the general CC public. The poor child is going to be half english/half norwegian, but doesn't necessarily have to be called after a Tolkien creation. The parent's religious affiliation veer towards the christian, but more out of habit than true conviction, though one of them is tittilated by the far eastern philosophies. Nothing fancy or modern - in fact, quite the opposite, perhaps.

All suggestions will be written on a piece of paper, folded, and put into a hat. The winner will be drawn and announced... and then we'll see.

How about "Parents-too-lazy-to-choose"?

Jacque?

Of course, with Poldark back there is always Verity.
I actually know someone whose daughter is called Freddie. Not Frederica or any variants, but Freddie.

Thanks for the reminder @Katherine

I have appreciated everyone's responses. Some of the suggestions have been lovely indeed. Some have been thoughtful and apt - and lovely indeed. Some are lovely indeed and real candidates. The mother, though, has become quite sure on Emily. We all know this is a very popular name in the english-speaking world - and that puts me off a bit - but in Norway it works well. A friend told me today 'It is ark-engelsk' . I'll put the suggestions in a hat, as promised, and draw a winner. And donate a tenner to the winner's choice of childrens charities.

Regarding arrival the due date is in three weeks, but the way things are going we are talking days rather than weeks. Exciting

Best wishes to you both and good luck to herself!
