New Bike For Commute

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and relatively new to cycling. I'm looking at purchasing a new bike primarily for commuting (roughly 20 miles a day mainly flat). My current bikes (Wilier Izoard XP) is written off so I'm looking at upgrading and buying a bike which will be a solid ride for the commute and also being enjoyable on weekend rides.

I will be spending within the region of 1500 on a new bike so any advice will be appreciated. I was also recommended the new Giant Advanced propel (£1400) so if anyone has any experience around aero bikes or whether another bike would be more beneficial i would love to hear.

I wouldn't get an aero bike for commuting. Buy something for around £500 for riding to work then when you get the bug spend the rest on a nicer bike for shoots and giggles.

You need to tell us about your commute before we can give sensible options. Distance? Urban or rural? Day or night? Road or track? Surface conditions?

+1 for two bikes. Personally I would get a Carrera Subway for a couple of hundred then spend the rest on a 2014 model bike of some sort for the weekend

Or if wanting a road bike, one of the sub £400 Decathlon or Merlin jobbies and a £1000 toy
