Why don't you use one of the bikes you have already and save £2000.

Do you intend to do this self supported, are you camping, hotels or B&Bs. Are you doing it as fast as you can or a leisurely ride?

All these things make a difference in what type of bike you need. But you don't need a 2 grand bike to do it.

Steve

I am just doing it with my Dad, we are planning on doing it over 2 weeks with a mixture of camping & B&B's. It will be more of a leisurely ride as im sure my knees will fail me at some point...

If its a leisure ride and one that you think you may not complete, I would use one of the bikes you have already. A new bike won't solve the problem of your knee. But a neoprene knee support might, it does mine, and its less than £2000.

People do this ride on all sorts of cheap, scrap bikes. I am sure one of yours will fit the bill. All you need is a rack and some cheap panniers.

If your Boardman Hybrid is anything like this it would certainly do the job over 2 weeks.

That's not my bike, it is just one I found on the net that I thought would do the job.

I like the rack on that bike.

Thanks for everyones replies.

Biggs & Stevie - I want to get another bike to use for the winter too - its not just for LEJOG. Then I will have my Hybrid for commuting, Road for better weather cycling & my new one for winter & longer day rides / touring.

Thanks Vickster I really like the Pearsons bikes, I think I will just go into the sheen store & see what they can offer me. My budget will depend on if I get my Bonus for2013.

Have you also looked at Ribble's winter bike offering?

If you want titanium, Van Nic and Enigma are popular options (frames around £1500-2k)

Steel, the Genesis bikes, although note the equilibriums don't have top rack mounts, but you can get a seat collar mount

Call the Sheen store first, I am sure they have the Pearson models as well as Sutton, but double check

Thanks Vickster - stop giving me more models to choose from- I will never get one at this rate, too much choice! ^_^

I probably wont get it until end of Jan / feb anyway - I will pop in the store as I live closeish & also ride round Richmond park abit. My Friend was in the store at the weekend and said the Pearson bikes look really nice.

I think I would prefer to get a Pearson now compared to the Genisis bikes -

The Pearson will be built for you, but test riding may be tough as they don't keep all models in all sizes as built to order

A Pearson is a different choice to a Genesis...come Feb I will have one of each - plus a Whyte, so an All British stable

Thanks - will try and get some put on next week - hopefully will be able to manage it.
Just pay your LBS to do it, buying the mudguards from them.

Every time I have gone to have mudguards fitted, the LBS has really struggled to find any that fit...I'd rather someone else had the grief. My LBS charges £15 for fitting, plus you'll likely pay RRP for the kit
