Also does the Frame size matter a huge deal? I'm 5ft 10 11 ish and on ashcycles http://www.ashcycles.com/site/giant-defy-1-2014-black the only size they have for this price is 53.5, but I should get a 56cm - 58cm. does it really matter? or would you recommend getting the http://www.ashcycles.com/site/giant-defy-1-2014-blue which is 55.5cm but theres a £20 difference?
Yes, absolutely. A bike that is the wrong size can be uncomfortable at best and potentially damaging at worst. If between sizes, go smaller not bigger

You cannot easily compare measurements across manufacturers - the 53.5cm measurement maybe for a different part of the bike than the 56cm from another company

@Cyclist33 - is the 53.5cm the M/L or L?

Edit - looks like it's the M/L with a 56cm TT. The L (55.5) is a 57.5cm TT with a >2cm increase in standover height, which would likely be too big

I'd recommend the blue over the black if you can get the right size ;)

Correct on all counts (I think!)

the M/L has a 53.5 vertical and a 56 cm top tube.

I hazard that the Large would be too big as I'm 5'11.5" and M/L is just right with a shortened stem.

Ah but happy days, they also have the blue one in the 53.5cm :okay:

I was out riding last weekend but one in a small group of slackers, and one of us had the blue Defy 1. It does look nice and a bit different from the usual paintjobs. It would've been great if I'd had my black Defy 3 with me as a) we could've tested their relative performance and b) assessed their aesthetics side by side... You'll never agree but I do think there isn't one "black" rather a huge (and attractive) variety of shades and finishes of grey. I counted at least 15 on my Defy the other evening!!

I don't like grey either, dullsville! Not keen on silver, but I might make an exception for titanium in the future...that said enigma will paint the Ti

I test road the M/L today which is 53.5, and it felt perfect, and luckly on ashcycles they only have that one left in stock, so very happy

Also might be a stupid Q sorry lol, I want some spare inne tubes so I order 700x20-25 Race 28 Presta 42mm from Wiggle this is the correct ones for the bike right? ( I can still edit my basket)

I am your Father
I phoned up Ashcyles yesterday and spoke to a women and said I'm looking at getting the Giant defy 1 for
£995.00 £698.95
Save: 30% off

with the cycletoworkscheme, and she asked who I work for and said that they will have to add 10% of the price of the bike onto it as they get charged or something like that, have you heard anything of this?

Also she said normally the cycletoworkscheme is only on full prices bikes not bikes on offer
Yes @Jonny17291 this is perfectly normal for C2W scheme on older or reduced bikes.

The vendor/store etc do pay a fee to the scheme & therefore have to protect their margins.

I got my 2014 Cube from Winstanleys bikes in Wigan & had to pay the extra 10%, but the bike was heavily reduced & the best online price at that time as the 2015 bikes were rolling out.

I had a Defy & I am quite sure you will be very happy with it.

The M/L is bang on for you too, mine was a Large & I am 6ft tall, had to get rid of it as I found it too big.
