Ditto. I wouldn’t necessarily want or like to pay to replace something, but I could if I had to. Insurance premiums are wasted money if you never make a claim; I’d rather save that money and take the risk of loss myself.

That's my general maxim too but unfortunately I legally have to insure my car!

Legally, you only have to insure it for third party damage - and that could be way more than you can afford to pay from savings.
