Morning all, I'm currently looking for a new bike I've got a 10 year old Voodoo Bizango and want something with a bit more capacity to upgrade this time. Currently looking at planet x's Silk Road and Whippet options but have no idea on carbon Vs titanium frames.

Anyone got either bike or any suggestions for different options? Thoughts greatly appreciated.

For context:

My riding is fairly tame live in Manchester so miles of Canals etc... before I hit proper countryside and I think for now ridgid will do me fine. Am middle aged and getting fitness back after a long time out and getting to longer rides rather than charging down technical trails is what interests me. Considered full gravel but am set in my flat bar ways at this point.

Budget is about £1500 and I want something I can keep for a long time and upgrade if I feel like it.

Four years ago I bought an On One Whippet with a rigid fork to replace my aging full suspension Giant Trance. I think of it as a wide tyred, flat barred gravel bike but without the marketing tax and have done about 15000km on it. I replaced the tyres with Vittoria Barzo and set them up tubeless - this was really straightforward and way better than the ghetto bodge on the Trance. After clipping one too many trees I chopped the silly wide bars down a bit.
There are times when I miss the plush ride of the Trance and the ability to smash through stuff but I definitely don't miss the weight, the maintenance, the mud clogged front mech etc.
I have ridden some reasonably technical trails on the Whippet (with care) but what it really excels at is 'gravel' such as the local canal footpaths and also climbing where its relatively light weight and nimble front end help.
The only disappointing problem that I have had was when I noticed cracking at the spoke holes on the rear rim six months ago and ended up upgrading the wheels with a pair of DT Swiss.
There are a few paint chips but it has had a fairly hard life!
I have no experience with Titanium bikes.

Cheers that's really helpful. I read a few things about the tyres and wheels not being great but figured coming from the budget section of the market I probably wouldn't know the difference until I change them.
