Don't be silly. If he has £2000 spare after paying his bills should he just give it away to someone?

as i said, he can do what he likes with it. that includes flaunting a 2k bike.

i think its ridiculous to spend that much but if you got it, flaunt it eh!

stick with the stock wheels. theyre not glamorous but theyre very well made and as good as if not better than any rival.

I don't think we should be knocking people for setting a clear budget before committing to buy a bike.

Personally, my ethos for buying almost anything is to work out what I want/need/desire (not necessarily in that order) then looking at what that would cost. If this means spending an unrealistic sum then the expectations are reined in a bit until the cost becomes manageable/acceptable.

Using this practice to buy a bike can mean anything from £300-£3000, it's just whatever the right bike costs. Before anyone says it, I have never spent £3k on a bike. Closest was £1k on an MTB back in 1994. My 2 more recent bike purchases were well within the £1k figure and I still consider them an indulgence but they do the job superbly, I don't find myself struggling at the back

That's more than likely down to you, Skol, not the bikes!

But yeah I do get what's being said. Like I said. The "I" in my sentence does suggest subjectivity and far be it from me to shy away from stating my own opinion!

Would be interesting to do a proper cost-benefit test on buying a new bike. I bet I could easily justify £2k then!

If i saw a bike for £5000 that had it all id buy it, im not minted but for my hobbie/addiction id make sacrifices.
For my Domane i sold my BWM 330ci sport (flappy paddles and all), i done 1000 miles a year in that car and ive done 2000k on my bikes so far this year.

First bike was a trek 1000 cost £250 lasted 8 years, class bike , next one was a trek 3.1 £1200 it only lasted 8 months. I was hit by a car ( sun blinded her) 3 months off self employed work ,2 ops ,2 months in plaster and 3 months of being the grumpiest huband possible made me realise how lucky I was not to be more messed up ,but also how much cycling is good for me on so many levels . So I'm sticking the new bike on credit card and hitting the road . Am nervous as hell but sure what can you do , thanks for all the advice much appreciated don't think I could ride a trek again even though great bikes , lbs sells giants so might go with them, thanks again.
