Hey all, i'm new here, so I hope this is in the correct place.
I've had a mountain bike for the past 2-3 years (VooDoo Bantu), and am currently using it to ride to work (8 miles round trip) 3-4 times a week, and general riding. It's massive, and way too heavy in my opinion for efficient riding. I've been looking for a new bike, specifically a smaller, lighter bike, and have come across the Trek FX 7.4 bike.
I want to use the bike to get into shape over the next year, as i'm pretty big atm, 5'9", 100kg, but am not completely unfit. The Trek Bike is pretty much in my price range, however I have a question about the 2 different models:
7.4 (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/road/fitness/fx/7_4_fx/#)
and the 7.4 Disc (http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/town/fitness/fx/7_4_fx_disc/#)
My question are, as i'm quite heavy, would the 7.4 (no disc brakes) provide sufficent braking for me? This model also includes a Carbon Fork, compared to the FX Alloy Disc w/tapered wall thickness, straight blades on the 7.4 disc model. What's the real difference between the two different forks, and which model do you think would benefit me the most?
Thanks for taking time to read this!
