Why forget carbon?

What CK said, plus, people seem to just assume carbon is an upgrade from what ever they have now, when in reality it's just a different material, but it's also a material that means in the event of a hefty crash you might have to replace the entire frameset!

I think you would struggle to find a brand new Tiagra groupset bike with carbon for that price.

Maybe, but I was always told to buy the very best frame your budget will allow, everything else is easy to upgrade as you go, (if you want to of course).

So with that in mind I would never buy a carbon frame with the OP's budget. I'm not saying a carbon bike at this price point is junk, or it will fail, or anything else for that matter, just that a carbon frame in this price range will be the lowest quality carbon construction available, whereas an alu frame won't be, certainly in the case of the CAAD8 anyway, that was, and arguably still is one of the best alu frames money can buy.

Yup I'm biased to CAAD's I admit, but not without good reason.

+1, the cheapest bike isn't necessarily the best bike (and probably isn't!). Having pretty much the same budget as the OP for an upgrade, I made the journey to my nearest cannondale dealer this morning and the caad8 is superb. I'm pretty much sold on one.

Canyon Roadlite AL 105.
Cost is a little more than budget £860, but you get an excellent bike.
105 groupset, decent wheels and weights 8.1kg. Bargain.

Oh and it is carbon fork & alloy frame.
Just don't look at the Canyon Ultimate AL...It is ace.

Carbon forks, alloy frame.

cycle2work via halfords seems very unlikely, canyon only sell direct I believe.

Or Caad10 with 105, if you can find one at the money.
You may need to upgrade wheels at some point though.

I'm pretty sure I saw the same rather handsome bike in my local Deccy's about 2 or 3 weeks ago. It's worth giving your nearest branch a call to see whether they already have them in stock.

I've heard a lot of good things about the ribble new sportive, what you think to that ?
