Hi Everyone

I'm about to purchase my first bike but there is sooo much choice out there, everyone i speak to has different advice. I dont know what to do!!!

I've got about £850 to spend,
I am an keen runner, interested in getting into triathlon,
I cycle to work (roughly 12 miles, currently on a mountain bike with slicks),
I am planning on doing some long distances over 100 miles in the near future.

What do people think? Anyone got any recommendations/suggestions? Do I get a comfortable tourer that I will tour on once or twice a year? Do I get a racer that I can shoot to work in no time on but will be unconfortable over distance? Is there a comprimise???

I had a similar budget when buying a bike 2 years ago & bought a racing bike which is great, but during winter  It has no clearance for mudguards, i've tried raceblades but they are nowhere near as good as full guards & there is no mountings for a rack. Due to these reasons tho it was easy to convince my other half that i now need a tourer with racks & guards. Had i bought the tourer first it would have been much harder to pursuade her i needed a racing bike

If i could only have one bike though & was using it for commuting i'd make sure it had clearnace for guards
