Hi guys,

I am looking into buying a new road bike. It will be my second bike since starting out road cycling a couple of years ago. My first bike was a Carrera TDF from Halfords (a really low budget, entry level bike) and it has served me really well. I have taken the Carrera on some long rides, tough climbs and tricky terrain and have notched up a few thousand kilometres on it. I have a much higher income now and am taking my cycling more seriously than before, so therefore am on the hunt for a complete upgrade and something that both looks great and rides well.

Here are a couple of models that I've seen on my brief search so far:

1) <a href="http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/roubaix-sl4-2016-road-bike-ec120981#features">Specialized Roubaix SL4 2016</a>

2) <a href="http://www.evanscycles.com/products/cannondale/synapse-105-6-2015-road-bike-ec071020">Cannondale Synapse 105 6 2015</a>

3) <a href="http://www.head-for-the-hills.co.uk/bikes/road-bikes/trek-emonda-sl-5-54/">Trek Emonda SL5</a>

4) <a href="http://head-for-the-hills.co.uk/bikes/road-bikes/genesis-equilibrium-disc-10-58cm/">Genesis Equilibrium Disc 10</a>

I am probably most drawn to 2016's edition of the Specialized Roubaix at the moment, however any thoughts or recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys,

Jordan

It's about the time year when 2016 models come out so deals can be had on 2015 models my be worth waiting for a month a see what crops up . As for the one you shortlisted I go for the cannandale but at that price range there all good bikes do it comes down to personal preference If you like it and it feels right then that's th one . you probably get loads of decorations and end up confused . Test ride what you like . good luck hunting

I had a Cannondale between the late 90's and 2006 and it was a great bike til I hit three pedestrians in Walthamstow.

Probably one of the best bikes I ever had.Wow nice bikes in the pics.Drooling.

Thanks for all your replies chaps. I won't be buying anything until next year, as I'm going travelling for four months (probably should have mentioned that) in December! I'm glad that the general consensus regarding the bikes in my current shortlist are generally positives though, as this is the sort of price bracket I'm looking to enter in to.

Any more words/advice is really appreciated.

Thanks,

Before trying them out the Roubaix would be my bottom pick of those 4. Got an alu synapse that I think is a nice bike that'd be nicer with a couple of upgrades so the fact the Synapse carbon you've linked has some better kit that the Roubaix would push me to the Cannondale of the 2. Specialized generally seem pricey for the spec, but you may value the quality of the frame and not be too bothered by that. Pretty sure it won't be a bad bike.

Interesting you've linked the Equilibrium, steel frame compared to the others being carbon? Certainly worth a look, I'm currently waiting for the 2016 CdF to arrive in store so I can try them out with a view to getting 1 to compliment the Synapse. 2016 Equilibriums are looking quite smart too https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.930704376994067.1073741833.153321304732382&type=3

Many many options out there potentially.

The Synapse has risen to the top of my wishlist now, chiefly because the 2016 edition features some great specs and the standard retail price is within my reach. When I come to actually looking to buy I'm sure the price will have fallen, so I'm really pleased about that!

Let us know what you choose. I'm thinking of buying a Synapse as well (or possibly the CAAD12).
