1 Sirrus sport just been delivered... shame I have suspected swine flu and not allowed to go out to play

Looks smaller than I remember in the shop, and man is it light. Can’t wait to get out on it.

1 question though, it comes with toe clip pedals, how can you remove the clips?

You want to remove the cage? Should be straightforward, Hex or Posi holding on a bracket on front of pedal platform.

Is there a reason for removing them?

Jim - I got a Sirrus Sport last year - great bike, very light and responsive.

I had the same thought about toe clips too but stuck with them ... took all of about 2 rides to get used to them - being able to gnerate power on the upstroke it does make a difference, particularly on steep hills.

Touch wood, I haven't had a comedy zero MPH sideways topple yet.

Just not sure I'll like them, maybe used to the normal pedals on the MTB I suppose... then maybe I should try them out before I get shot of them

My preference would be to change them to clipless, but in lieu of that I'd leave them on. Very simple to use and you'll get more drive for your dollar.

Yeah I have been looking a clipless, my only worry (and I am sure this is just a newbie thing) is getting in and out the pedal at lights quickly... also I know a chap who snapped his shin bone falling with clipless... that said I know a dozen or so guy who have had arms/legs snapped training MMA but that somehow doesn't put me off! It's all good untill you make an erse of yourself at lights:biggrin:
BTW it took 2 guys to bring the bike up to my flat!

edit: Also the box bikes come in, is there any need for that... would some pipe wrap and some buble wrap not be better than a coffin sized box to get ris of? Now I need to go to the city dump with the thing

One thing to be aware of.

If you ARE going to do a comedy 0mph topple, I can more or less guarantee that it'll be directly in front of a gaggle of attractive females.

 But I'll make sure I get mouth to mouth or some sort of attention... wait, it's Glasgow, they would just nick the bike and my wallet and effe off!

Clipless pedals

I found it no problem at all - went from riding with toeclips to clipless, doing cross-London rides in traffic, without ever having a fall. Here's the approach I used:

- Buy dual-sided pedals with a flat platform on one side, MTB (ie small) cleats on the other.
- Set the pedals very loose on cleat tension.
- Buy commuting (two-bolt recessed cleats, rubber soles) shoes

This means that you
- Can ride the bike without cleats
- Can ride the bike with one cleat in only, using the flat platform on the other side, whilst you get used to it
- Can clip out very quickly
- In my experience: the couple of times I forgot to clip out, a panicked shake of the leg I was about to land on, got the foot out in time.

I presume mentioning specific products is frowned on but I'm happy to let people know the (very cheap) kit I use.

Get well soon and keep using the oinkment....

Seriously though - you're the first person I've come across with suspected swine flu. Did you catch it from someone you know or were you in Mexico on holiday ?

No idea who I got it from, I suspect one of the lads in work (as I saw in the rota he went home on Saturday night sick). It could just be a normal flu, just the NHS treat it as swine flu no mater what, The Dr said a few weeks back I would have been swabbed to find out for sure (but now they don't). The worst thing about it is that it's more like a chest infection so can't get out for a run or a cycle... and I feel tired all the time. Today however I do feel a lot better, I am on a course of Tamiflu, have uppded my vit c intake and walking about in a sweat suit to try and flush it out.
Have now taken the bike out the box and set it all up, and as soon as I don't feel I have razor blades in my chest I'm out there to try it out.
