loafer - nice with good spec for good price - more than double the quality of my entry level ocr giant 6 years ago for £500 - better wheels are a must though

That kind of money is not what I'd consider "entry level"

but

It will buy you a very nice bike

Nice comfortable relaxed geometry and excellent components. The impulso also looks great fro about £150 more.

confused much? erm yes i am haha!!!

That Orion has a good frame (Ridley owner - Excalibur) however although Tiagara is fine, I have it on my Cube, you could probably get better value with a better spec for around £1000. These always get a good write up.

If you go down the Ridley route it is worth noting their frames come up somewhat large so a bike fit would be advisable. A review of the Orion albeit with a higher spec is available here.

I would second the idea of looking at the Specialized Secteur range, or the Allez if you don't need the extra comfort and feel like bezzing it a bit.

If you are set on carbon, then Focus seems to be a good way of getting a full carbon bike for the prices that many manufacturers offer alu/carbon. Even the Focus alu/carbon bikes have better groupsets than 'equivalent' Specialized or Scott. A range well worth a look.

I wpuldn't think £1100 for a carbon framed bike with Tiagra is unreasonable? You can of course get cheaper with an alu/carbon frame or get such a frame with better groupset etc for the same money. Depends what frame material appeals

AireValley seem to have a good range - ask for test rides on all of the models that appeal around your preferred budget  The Kuotas with either SRAM or 105 look good on their site
