As I needed a Shimano cassette for my winter build, I managed to persuade Mrs S that the best course of action was to buy a new cassette for the CAAD10, then I could use the Ultegra cassette from the CAAD for my winter build, and guess what? She only went and fell for it
So now Rhianna has a beautiful Sram Red cassette to compliment the red hubs of her Mavic SL's

Now I just need to ensure Mrs S doesn't find out I could have bought a 105 10 speed cassette for a fraction of the cost

Oooh, I have red hubs too and think I need the SRAM Red cassette . Wowsers, just looked at the price of them! £160. I'll wait till my 105 one wears out I think.

Not sure what your wheels cassette body is made of but are you aware of the Red Cassettes eating into the splines on an aluminium cassette body.

That chain and hub are a bit too clean, are you sure you use the bike or does it hang on your living room wall .

(Edit:biggrin:oh, new cassette = new chain)

Nice innit  I got it from HERE Granted it was still £140 posted, but considering the RRP I was pretty chuffed with the price.

The freehub on the SL's is aluminium. I haven't heard anything about that, but I noticed something similar on the alu freehub of my Halo Aerorage winter wheels. When I took the cassette off I'd been using, (105), there where 'chew' marks on the freehub body! I'd guess it was pretty inevtiable considering the forces that go through it.

 she certainly doesn't get the miles she deserves, let's leave it at that shall we

I've actually been having issues with the BB30. Creaking pretty bad. It seems that BB30 creaks are very common, with some people stripping and greasing every couple of rides! I've stripped it, greased it and it's perfect at the moment, but I can't be doing with that. If it continues I'll be having words I think.

Ta for link.

There was an article I read a little while ago about the design of the Red cassette, as opposed to shimano cassettes which spreads the torque along the length, or should that be width of the body. Let me see if I can find it...

Edit: Here it is Red Cassette Review. As usual another review says: "Contrary to popular expectations, we're happy to report that we noticed exactly zero galling (or scuffing for that matter) even on soft aluminium freehub bodies."

Although would be relatively cheap to replace the freehub body anyway.

Cheers for that, I think

Seriously though, I'll just have keep my eye on it. I'm doing the 55 mile Cat & Fiddle ride in October, so I'll probably get that out of the way then whip the cassette off the following week and have a check. I know the freehub was perfect when I took the Ultegra cassette off, but I'd say it hadn't done more than 300 miles from new at that stage anyway, so we'll see - watch this space!

I too have recently noticed a creak in my BB30 (quick clean sorted it out). When you say strip and re-grease, I'm assuming your're not actually removing the BB30 bearings? Just the chainset...

Yep, just the chainset. I smothered everything then put it all back, tightened it up and fingers crossed it's quiet as mouse again. The crank side takes a fair whack to remove, but to be fair I was using quite a small rubber hammer, still glad the frames not cf though

I'll have to invest in a bearing puller at some stage, although they do say you should only ever remove them when you plan to replace them, ie: don't remove and re-fit the same bearings.

I've never had these issues with Hollowtech II in many years, and I'm very surprised, (and a little dismayed), that I'm having them with BB30, especially seeing as loads of manufacturers are jumping on the BB30 bandwagon.

Still, hopefully that will be mine sorted for some time now

And here is me thinking you lot are on to a big money loser - don't use this stuff on a daily ride, as it will be a new cassette for 3 or 4 sprockets.

I can still get any sprocket I like for my DA 7400 - and rebuild a new block. Why this weight obsession at the wrong part of the wheel ?

Looks great, but don't use it on a daily ride. Use the lower end stuff for day to day stuff, use the flash kit for events !

For the mileage I do that shouldn't be an issue fossy
